Thanks so much for your comment. We went back on forth on that paragraph. Udacity is a private company, not publicly traded. That said, it does seem very likely that they won’t be able to claim tax exempt status. THAT said, several for-profit institutions do claim tax-exempt status, such as the University of Phoenix.

A stock corporation or publicly traded company cannot claim tax-exempt status under the IRS code 501. Tax-exempt entities cannot take investment money and return profits to owners/shareholders.
